Visiting Card Size in India (mm, inches, pixels) and Design Rules

The most common visiting card size in India is 3.5 × 2 inches (about 89 × 51 mm). Many shops also print the slightly larger 90 × 54 mm format. Either fits standard card holders and wallets. This guide gives the exact dimensions to design at, how much bleed to add, and the design rules that make a card print cleanly.

Ask your print shop which size their cutting setup uses before you design. Custom sizes like square or slim cards usually cost a little more because of extra cutting.

Bleed, trim and safe zone

  • Bleed: extend background colours and images 3 mm beyond the trim line on every side. Cutting is never perfectly exact, and bleed prevents thin white edges.
  • Trim line: the finished card size.
  • Safe zone: keep text and logos at least 3–4 mm inside the trim line so nothing important is cut off.

Paper thickness matters as much as layout — our paper GSM guide explains which card weight to choose.

Design rules that print well

Text size

Keep the name around 9–12 pt and contact details no smaller than about 7 pt. Thin fonts below that size can break up in print, especially on textured paper or in reversed (white on dark) text.

Colour

Design in CMYK, not RGB. Bright screen colours like electric blue or neon green cannot be reproduced exactly with printing inks. For a brand colour that must match every time, give the printer a Pantone reference.

Rich black

Large black backgrounds look deeper with a "rich black" mix rather than plain black. Ask your printer for their preferred mix; small black text should stay plain black so it stays sharp.

What to include

  • Name and role
  • Business name and logo
  • Mobile number (with WhatsApp if you use it for business)
  • Email and website
  • Address, or just the city if you do not receive visitors
  • Optional: GSTIN for B2B suppliers, a QR code linking to your website or catalogue

Leave white space. A crowded card is harder to read than a simple one with fewer details.

Frequently asked questions

What is the standard visiting card size in India?

3.5 × 2 inches (about 89 × 51 mm) is the most common size. Many shops also print 90 × 54 mm. Design with 3 mm bleed on all sides.

What size should I design a visiting card in Canva or Photoshop?

For a 3.5 × 2 inch card, set up 1050 × 600 pixels at 300 DPI for the finished size, or 1121 × 671 pixels if you include 3 mm bleed. Export as a high-quality PDF if possible.

How many visiting cards should I order?

For one person, 100–250 cards is common. Per-card cost falls noticeably at 500 and 1,000, so teams often order larger runs together.

Should I put a QR code on my visiting card?

It can help, especially for a website, catalogue or WhatsApp Business link. Keep it at least about 15 mm square and test it from the printed proof.
